The annual BSC is in its 16th year, and it's a tournament-style competition where regional undergraduate students compete in role-plays over a [now] three day period. I, Laura Valenti, am the director, and a marketing professor at Nicholls, and run the entire event with the amazing assistance of our department secretary, Annette Adams. Our College of Business graduate students and student volunteers make sure the event runs smoothly and, as a self-funded initiative, many communities and some national organizations support us financially to minimize the costs of competitors. We also use the funds to send our sales students to other competitions (in fact, Sydney Rutter finished 13th place of 160 sales students across the nation in November at the ICSC). Organizations support us because each of the anticipating universities have vetted their sales students to come to the BSC, and from our competition, many will go to the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC). Most will go into a sales career, and these competitions showcase the most talented.
Students compete in several rounds at the BSC, and each these rounds require several volunteers to play the role of customer, and a minimum of 5 judges score each room in each round. Last year, in addition to the career fair on our last day of competition, we had approximately 130 volunteers. And we can always use more helping hands!
